It’s not that we don’t have a great life in Seattle, we just have this urge to get out and see the world. We’ve got a great home, great friends & family, jobs that we are fortunate enough to really enjoy, and probably the coolest dog ever. Still, every few years we feel the need to leave that all behind and venture off to far away places. Shaking up the routine reminds us how great life is and when you experience the expansion of time on the road (6 weeks can feel like 6 months) you are compelled to make the most of every day and keep that routine from becoming too… well… routine.
Brian and Kim have been married for 6 years and have been traveling together every last minute of it. They started dating in high school and proved their road worthiness together on a 10 week trip around Europe the year before getting married.
We subscribe to a philosophy of sustainable travel because we don’t want to change the places we visit, we expect the places we visit to change us. Some of the ways we are trying to achieve this are:
- Supporting local economies by patronizing local businesses and guides that keep the money we spend in the community
- Reducing waste by purifying our own water instead of buying bottles
- Recharging our electrical devices with free, clean, solar power instead of power generated by burning fossil fuels
- Offsetting our carbon footprint for transportation (and our house, car, etc even when we aren’t traveling)
- More? If you have other ideas please send them to us
This website is a record of where we’ve been and how we changed because of it. Entries that date prior to the creation of this site are compiled from written journals and going forward we are documenting our latest trips in real time. We hope you enjoy it, but really you’ll be lucky to get half as much a kick out of it as we do!
